Volunteer

"Neighbor Helping Neighbor"

Volunteer opportunities at The People Center provide a rewarding opportunity for you to help your neighbor.  We can't be "Neighbor Helping Neighbor" without you.

HOST VOLUNTEERS
At The People Center we are looking for individuals to help great clients and assist them in getting food and clothing.  The People Center provides training to our "hosts" to make sure that they are prepared to help families in need.

As a Host volunteer you are asked to complete a three hour shift once a month.  There are two shifts each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  First shift is 11am until 2pm and the second shift is 2pm until 5pm.

APARTMENT CLEANING
After guests move out of our transitional housing, we clean the apartments for the next guests.  This volunteer opportunity would be once every six months.  We would assign you the same apartment each time you would clean.  This is a fun time to get church groups and mom's groups together.  It takes approximately two hours to clean based on how many volunteers help.

FOOD PANTRY
If you like to shop, this may be the opportunity for you.  We need people to go to the grocery store and stock our pantry.  We also are looking for someone to go to the Feeding America in Comstock Park once a month and pick up items for our pantry.

CLOTHING HUTCH
The Clothing Hutch is looking for assistance in sorting the donations that come in.  We are also looking for someone to take unwanted clothing to another donation center.

YARD AND GARDEN
The People Center is looking for groups or individuals that would be will to do Spring and Fall clean up of our properties and also someone with a green thumb to maintain our gardens through the growing season.

HANDY PERSON
The People Center is looking for individuals that would be willing to be on call for various repair work on our buildings.  This could be any repair or update needed in or around the buildings.  Examples are:  hang shelves, fix doors, paint, etc.

There are also many other opportunities that come up during the year.
